obesessions of the moment | Mai Miyama of Aila Blue
A lifelong passionate traveler, designer Mai Miyama spent her youth bouncing between homes in Los Angeles,
Hawaii and Japan. Her love of travel was instilled at a young age and is reflective in her new
Aila Blue collection entitled,Vagabound De Lux. Now residing in Australia, Mai shares her current
obsessions of the moment.
AILA BLUE ‘SYDNEY’ SHORTS & ACACIA SWIMWEAR ‘PAIA’ SHORTS Living in the tropics, easy clothing is a necessity. Which is why I’m in love with lightweight printed shorts such as the silk orchid zig zag printed ones from my latest SS12 collection. I’m also heavily into my Acacia snake print zip up shorts. Both are so easy to dress up or down and are feminine with a touch of tomboy.
ANNA BECK CUFF
I fell in love with this cuff at my last collection shoot. Its a gold plated and sterling silver geometric tribal hunk of gorgeousness. Becky from Anna Beck styled the shoot with her incredible designs. And this cuff was in every single shot. It just went with everything. My fiancĂ© surprised me and purchased the cuff as a celebratory gift for finishing the collection. He’s a keeper. So is the cuff.
VINTAGE BONE & SHELL NECKLACE
I inherited a lovely collection of vintage costume jewelry from a very close family friend who passed away several years ago. Her name was Venice Carolyn. When her daughter and I were clearing out her closet, I was so inspired by the stashes of 1970′s glamour gowns and retro pieces that it actually influenced me to start Aila Blue. This necklace is from her collection and is my favorite. A statement piece that is timeless.
‘TRINITY’ PLAYSUIT. AILA BLUE
One of my most favorite pieces from the new collection is the ‘Trinity’ playsuit. The floral lace is so delicate and reminiscent of old Hollywood starlets like Greta Garbo yet the cut is playful and fresh. I love the contrast of vintage and modern.
LAMB NAVAJO BAG
A few months ago I came across this wild tote bag from L.A.M.B. and just had to have it. I love the bright navajo print and the size is great for weekend market shopping.
CHANELY ANKLE BOOTS
I named these boots after my baby sister Chanel because they reminded me of her style. A mix of gypsy meets grunge. The platform wooden heels are a bit boho chic and the zippers and extreme height make it edgy.
