While on a vacation in Mo’orea Tahiti, I was inspired by a neon pink hat I found in a market and declared with the utmost confidence that from now on, I was going to dress like a rainbow.The humbling vacation pictures attest to my commitment. After my Aunt took me to the theater to see  Jaws when I was nine-years-old I developed Selachophobia. Stranded on the beach, watching all the kids play, my Uncle Tommy asked why I wouldn’t go in the water. I told him in a small whisper, ” the sharks.” He smiled and told me a long story about my amakua (guardian)  who was the shark god of the Alenuehaha Channel and how no shark would ever harm me. In honor of them (or a reminder for them) I always wear this bracelet, even at the beach.
