ACACIA SWIMWEAR…just makes me want to travel.

I got a hold of a couple of Acacia bikinis a bit ago and I was blown away at how sexy and amazing the designs and cuts of these suits were.  This line, by Naomi Newirth and Lyndie Irons manages to integrate beauty and sexiness perfectly by pairing the perfect mix of very wearable colors with eye popping cuts and detail.   One of the many things I just love about the Acacias is the custom lining! It’s just something that makes the suit feel that much more quality. The travel inspired line really does make you want to hop on a plane for an some exotic beach.

The due behind the line, Naomi Newirth and Lyndie Irons both grew up in beach driven communities making bikini wearing pretty second nature. Now, coupled with their jetsetting lifestyle and constant “r & d” opportunities, it seems that Naomi and Lyndie make for the perfect team behind Acacia. Both had always wanted to start a bikini line and when Lyndie saw some of Naomi’s earlier samples they decided to really start pushing the line, thus began Acacia. Naomi does the initial designing and then they bounce ideas off of each other and collaborate on final design decisions and what ends up getting produced. First close friends, now full blown business partners, it’s really exciting to see what the duo comes out with next.

BB: How did you get into swimwear design?

Naomi: Growing up on Maui, I grew up on the beach, surfing Ho’okipa everyday or running to a waterfall, spending the majority of the day in my bikini. After graduating from high school, I learned how to sew my own swimsuits and thought that would be a good way to deicide on whether or not I wanted to attend fashion school. The University of Hawaii wasn’t doing it for me. After applying to FIDM I had spent the summer of 2006 in Bali, where I was introduced to all the design possibilities. That’s when I knew I wanted to start ACACIA. And Lyndie too always wanted to start her own swim line, so being such good friends it seemed perfect to start a swim line togehter :)

BB:What inspires you as a designer?

Naomi: Traveling is what most inspires my designs. Following all the different fashion trends around the world. The different cultures and nature is a huge inspiration for me as well. Also, my family and childhood memories…I have some out of the norm amazing memories that always spark inspiration!

BB: What inspired your line for 2011?

Naomi: Bali is always my main inspiration, but 2011 is a mix of themes. We not only have printed lining which is our signature touch, but we have introduced some new prints. An ikat style print that I absolutely love inspired by our travels to Bali as well as two other classic prints we designed that are timeless!

Lyndie: Naomi does all of our initial designs and she amazes me with every idea she has.  Being on the road, traveling so much, I get to do a lot of R & D work! Its fun for me because my travels get to contribute to ACACIA. When I’m inspired by something whether it be the beauty of the places I get to travel to every year or the different fashion trends around the world, I relay my thoughts to Naomi. She is really good about collaborating my thoughts into our design. Naomi is so incredibly talented.

BB:How would you describe your line?

Naomi: Chic, Flirty, Fun, Sexy. Its for a woman that is confidant and not afraid to show a little skin. We’re all about standing out, not fitting in! ACACIA swimsuits are detail oriented while still being simplistic. Its for the girl who loves the beach and cant live with out it.

Lyndie: Acacia is for the girl that is very confidant with who she is. Its for the girl who loves to lounge, laugh, swim, surf and play at the beach all while looking chic and sexy! Our suits are comfortable and easy to grab and throw on for that gypset girl who’s always on the go!

BB: I know you love to travel, where are your favorite destinations?

Naomi: Out of all the places I’ve traveled, Bali is definitely at the top. I consider it my second home…I feel more at home there then I do where I am currently living in California. But b/c I am living in California my favorite destination is my home, Maui with my besties and family! I have yet to travel to a few destinations that when I do I have a feeling will be on my top 10 (Africa, India, Morocco, Greek Islands, etc)! But Bali is truly a special place and I feel so fortunate to be able to travel there for work

Lyndie: A few of my favorite destinations would be Italy, Fiji and Brazil. I love Italy for the romance and the food. Italians dress so beautifully and they have such a layed back lifestyle. I love fiji for the crystal clear water, fresh air and the feeling of deep relaxation. And I love Brazil for the coulter. Everyone is so amped on life that its so refreshing to be there. And all the bright beautiful colors are so magical.

BB: What do you always pack when heading to a bikini destination? (i.e. fav sunscreen, pareo, jewelry, etc)

Naomi: An ACACIA is a must :) ! My La Roche-Posay sunscreen, my Krishna pareo, my black shark teeth pounded gold hoop earrings and my pounded silver and gold bangles with pukas and cone shells I found, Tulsa beads, and my little gold buddha necklace my brother gave me! Havaiianas, a good book or magazine, sunnies and an ipod! I’ll also grab an H.G.A. hat from back in the day if I feel like I’ve recently gotten a lot of sun lol. That’s what I’ll pack for the beach in my suitcase, but in all reality when I race to the beach all I usually grab is my ACACIA and Krishna and if I’m home on Maui, my surfboard.

Lyndie: One of my pareos, Vertra sunscreen, Tamba surfshop hat, ipod with speakers, my VZ sunnies, big bottle of Fiji water and of course my Acacia kini!
